Focus on the basics of drawing: line, shapes, values , perspective, and proportion. We will use charcoal, and pen, learning each medium’s unique qualities. I believe your paintings are only as good as your drawings. Drawing is the absolute essential to all visual art media. When you know how to draw, you can learn any other medium.
Move beyond the basics of drawing: composition, positive and negative space, circle square triangle, light on dark, and value. Learn how to make two-dimensional shapes look three dimensional. We will use simple materials such as pencils, charcoal, and pen and learn each medium’s unique qualities.
Open for those with basic drawing skills who want to explore the "traditional" methods of Pen & Ink, including Ink wash and color washes. Yes, that means, using the tried and true method of steel nibs and India Ink, "Dip, Dab, Scratch, Scratch."
Pouring paint is like a performance art. Students will prod their imagination by discovering the infinite possibilities of pouring one color onto another. Students will explore color, composition, and self-expression by building up layers of paint, glaze, and transparent washes. Students will have the opportunity to build up layers of paint and also experiment with sanding and carving away layers of paint.
